DIRECTOR’S NOTE:
ZAMANI is a word with multiple uses across Asia and Africa. It is often related to time and means: „time“, „a time period“, „an epoch“, „a dimension of history“ and „an age“ . In Farsi it means a time period which can be set in the future or the past. It is an endless period, an unspecific period, it has no beginning nor end point. It floats in a non linear space.
Our film ZAMANI refers to the circularity of time. A time period which already took place and yet to come, and in which four siblings from a different world and time-space who know how to connect with their environment remind us together with their ancestor kin what link we are missing.
One of the biggest crises of our time – the climate crisis – is not missing knowledge, or information or science. All of that we know and have access to. What is missing is that we connect to our planet and all its entities and inhabitants. And that we re-learn what it means to be home on planet earth.
